Dr. Melissa E. Heche specializes in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of auditory disorders and tinnitus at New York Speech & Hearing / NY Sound & Hearing, a premier boutique NYC practice. She earned her Doctorate of Audiology from Salus University and dual Master’s degrees in Speech Pathology and Audiology from Hofstra University. Dr. Heche holds a CAOHC certification as a Professional Supervisor in Hearing Conservation and is specialty-certified in Tinnitus Management.
A certified sound engineer with expertise in live music events, Dr. Heche brings a unique perspective to musician’s hearing and voice healthcare. As a musician, performer, and sound engineer herself, she continues to work and perform in the regional music and theatre scene, ensuring her expertise remains grounded in the realities of live performance. This hands-on approach makes her a sought-after resource for hearing healthcare in the music industry and informs her advanced work in hearing aid technology.
Dr. Heche has served on numerous committees and on the Board of the American Academy of Audiology (AAA). She is an active member of the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM), where she advocates for music education and hearing conservation. Her dedication to advocacy extends to Capitol Hill, where she champions audiology, hearing healthcare, and music industry causes.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Heche provides seminars on musician hearing healthcare, hearing protection, technology and hearing loss, voice disorders, and business practices. She has been featured on national news stations and published in leading trade journals, where she discusses increased access to audiological services, noise-induced hearing loss, and hearing healthcare for musicians.
